Top Civil Defense Attorneys from Brown Eassa and McLeod Join Sedgwick
On March 1, the attorneys from the top-tier trial and litigation defense firm of Brown Eassa & McLeod LLP will join Sedgwick LLP. Brown Eassa is a well-known civil defense firm, with a breadth of experience in product liability, class action, commercial litigation, mass tort, labor and employment, and environmental matters. Seven partners and their team of associates will be based in Sedgwick’s San Francisco office, and one partner and one associate will work out of Sedgwick’s Los Angeles office.
The Brown Eassa trial lawyers joining Sedgwick specialize in complex mass tort and product liability cases. They have longstanding relationships with major U.S. and international business clients and represent those clients at the local, state and national level.
The partners joining in San Francisco are Eugene Brown, Jr., Robert Eassa, Bruce McLeod, Delia Isvoranu, Troy McMahan and Amee Mikacich, along with their team of associates. In Los Angeles, partner Philip Cosgrove will be joined by an associate.
Eugene Brown, Jr. focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, including product and premises liability, commercial, labor and employment, and environmental and toxic torts. He has successfully tried to verdict in excess of 100 complex actions all over California, as well as in jurisdictions throughout the United States. In addition, Brown has defended public entities in actions alleging civil rights violations such as police excessive force, age and race discrimination, and sexual harassment. He is a fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, American College of Trial Lawyers, International Society of Barristers, and Litigation Counsel of America. He is also an advocate and past president of the San Francisco Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a distinguished member of the International Association of Defense Counsel. Brown earned his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law and graduated with an A.B. from the University of California at Berkeley.
Robert Eassa brings more than 25 years of experience as a civil trial and appellate attorney specializing in litigating all types of labor and employment, commercial, maritime, and toxic torts matters. He has successfully tried more than 45 civil trials to verdict, earning victories on behalf of oil companies, manufacturers, retailers, real estate developers/builders, chemical companies and merchandisers, among others. He has also argued successfully in the appellate courts in both state and federal court, including an argument he won before the California Supreme Court. Eassa earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Prior to law school, he earned his M.B.A. and B.A. from San Francisco State University.
Bruce McLeod has more than 35 years of litigation experience and specializes in counseling and defending Fortune 500 companies in the oil, chemical and engineering industries in complex commercial and tort litigation involving product and premises liability claims. McLeod has defended suits brought by plaintiffs involving claims of alleged birth defects, cancers, burns, pulmonary abnormalities and neuromuscular deficiencies. He currently leads a team involved in litigating a variety of complex toxic tort matters. McLeod began his legal career as a deputy district attorney in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. He earned his J.D. and B.S. from Brigham Young University.
Philip Cosgrove’s practice emphasizes complex civil litigation matters with a focus on product liability, transportation and toxic tort cases. Cosgrove has served as local trial counsel, national counsel and national discovery counsel in toxic tort cases and regional counsel in automotive product liability cases. He received his J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, and graduated with a B.A. from Rutgers University.
Delia Isvoranu specializes in the defense of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wrongful discharge and other employment-related matters, including wage and hour claims and class actions. She also defends employers in union/labor arbitrations and provides advice to in-house counsel and human resources personnel in the areas of employee discipline, terminations, layoffs, reductions in force, and responses to DFEH/EEOC and DLSE claims. She earned her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law and B.A. from the University of San Francisco.
Troy McMahan has more than 20 years of experience defending Fortune 500 companies in cases involving premises and product liability claims, maritime claims and business disputes involving the improper use of proprietary information. McMahan represents crude oil refiners, chemical manufacturers, vessel owners and operators, and automobile manufacturers, among others. He received his J.D. from the University of Utah, and graduated with a B.S. from the University of Idaho, Moscow.
Amee Mikacich’s practice focuses on product liability and premises liability, labor and employment, and commercial litigation. Mikacich is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the International Association of Defense Counsel, and a fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America. She earned her J.D. from San Francisco Law School, and graduated with a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley.
