Sedgwick LLP is pleased to announce the launch of its Securities Litigation Practice Group. Led by Sedgwick Orange County partner Kendra S. Canape, the new group expands the firm’s Commercial Division, an interdisciplinary team that encompasses members of its bankruptcy, business litigation, real estate litigation and finance practices. Canape’s colleagues in Orange County, associate attorneys Christopher R. Farnsworth and Rachel A. Weitzman, are also members of the dedicated group.
“We are excited to offer our clients multifaceted representation in the securities space through this newly formed practice. Further, this group will draw on the experience of our many related and complementary practices and resources,” said Michael F. Healy, chair of Sedgwick. “It is a major win for the firm and, even more so, for the companies and individuals we represent.”
The Securities Litigation Practice Group defends financial institutions, individuals and investment firms before arbitration panels, state and federal courts and regulatory bodies nationwide. With an emphasis on market issues facing full-service, discount and online broker-dealers, the group represents clients in securities actions, including shareholder class-action litigation, shareholder derivative actions, investigations and enforcement actions by the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and other federal and state regulators.
Group leader Canape regularly defends brokerage firms and clearing firms in class action and mass action litigation in state and federal courts. She also handles arbitrations and has defended more than 100 customer claims in FINRA, AAA and ADR arbitration matters for financial services firms throughout the country. Rounding out the firm’s securities-related offerings, Canape and the group also tackle emerging cybersecurity- and data privacy-related issues, including incident planning and breach response, as well as employment matters. Canape earned her J.D. from the University of San Diego Law School and her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego. To learn more about the Securities Litigation Practice, please click here.
